Spiritual Sadhana

By Shri Paramahamsa Omkarananda Saraswati

Spiritual Sadhana is an effort for God-realization. It is a movement against the current of Maya or Illusion. It is rending asunder the knots of delusion and infatuation. Sadhana is a complete giving up of the lower egoistic individuality for the sake of the higher joy of the spiritual Realm. Sadhana should be practised in every day life;
nay, every act of man has to be turned into spiritual exertion. There should be no need to demarcate things and acts as spiritual and material. Spiritualise all that you see or hear. Everything in the world has got a spiritual message to convey.

The ordinary life of the man of the world becomes a step in the passage to the Infinite, the moment the conceit of the ego is given up and universal life is embraced!

Life on earth is the time taken by the Self of man to prepare for the Divine Existence. Let the petty self be disintegrated or surrendered and negated, and at once it is invaded by the Great Being, the Supreme Lord! The boundary of the human being is broken and there is an automatic entrance into the All.

It is possible for one and all to become like this, but there should be sincerity and large-heartedness. The Divine is not attained by him who is crooked at heart and cunning in nature, who plays tricks. Confess guilt and fraud. Serve the enemy. Bow down to the wicked. Feed the poor. Love all creatures; for, they are but God and God alone. Bear pain and suffering. Lead the ideal life. Discipline yourself strenuously. Discover the Divine in the universe. Dedicate yourself to the Eternal Being. Think of Him and rest in Him. You will be protected. You will be in want of nothing. You will become Immortal. You will enjoy perennial Peace, Infinite Bliss and everlasting Joy!
