of Rishikesh, the "City of Saints". Swamiji threw light on the
importance of an active life and above all, a life,
concentrated on the Divine, in order to overcome feelings of
loneliness or depression. He also strongly appealed to
everybody, to nicely take care for the Elders and not to neglect
them. Swamiji used several practical examples, to illustrate, how
the behaviour towards the Elderly should be, and how it should
not be. These practical examples deeply impressed the audience.
The speech was translated into Hindi by Kumari Somashekhari.
Shri Swami
Vishveshwaranandaji's divine speech was very much praised by all.
Many Dignitaries, including Shri Deep Sharma, Former Chairman,
Rishikesh Nagar Palika, openly expressed their Gratitude and

Participants of this Function deeply thanked Swamiji for his
Blessings and his wonderful Speech.
The cultural part
of this wonderful Function started with beautiful Dances to
Radha-Krishna Bhajans and Holi-Bhajans by Artists of the Suraj Art
Group.
Kumari Somashekhari presented a powerful
Bharatanatyam Dance. Her graceful movements were very much
appreciated by the audience.
While dancing,

Kumari Somashekhari
in a joyful Radha-Krishna Dance, which touched the hearts of all.
On request of the Organizers of this
wonderful event, Kumari Somashekhari was singing two
devotional songs in Garhwali, the local language of the Garhwal
Himalayas. Her performance kept many absolutely speechless.
Artists from Suraj
Art Group, dressed as Radha, Krishna and Gopis, wearing beautiful,
colourful dresses, were dancing to joyous Holi-Songs. They
also started taking a lot of fresh flower-petals in their
hands, and - while dancing - were throwing the flowers towards
the audience.
It was a big surprise - for Swami
Vishveshwarananda, Kumari Somashekhari and all - when suddenly
Krishna and the Gopis left the stage, came down to them and
constantly showered a rain of flowers on them.
This "Phoolon ki
Holi" - playing Holi with flowers - was immensely enjoyed by all.
The Holi Celebration took an even more
joyous and ecstatic turn, when Krishna and the Gopis came to
Swami Vishveshwaranandaji and Kumari Somashekhari, gently
drawing them up from their seats and asking them to dance with
them. Swamiji and Somaji could not resist. They started
dancing blissfully - their hearts filled with great, innocent,
divine Joy - while many others from the audience rushed to
them and happily joined dancing with them, like one big spiritual
family. It was an unforgettable, heavenly moment.
Swami
Vishveshwarananda, Kumari Somashekhari and other Dignitaries enjoy
the beautiful rain of flowers. It was a brilliant idea by the
noble Members of the Senior Citizen Welfare Organization,
Rishikesh, to celebrate "Phoolon ki Holi" - playing Holi with
Flowers - instead of using harmful, toxic colours.
At the conclusion
of this heart-touching Celebration many people requested for
photos together with Swami Vishveshwarananda and Kumari
Somashekhari.

My
heartfelt Adorations to the omnipresent, omnipotent,
omni-scient Divinity in all of you!
My special Adorations to the most honourable President
of the Senior Citizen Welfare Organization, Shri Harish
Dhingra, the General Secretary Shri S.P. Agrawalji and the
Treasurer Shri Baburam Agrawalj. Adorations also to the
Chief Guest of today's Function, Kumari Somashekhari,
General Secretary Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas, to Shri
Deep Sharmaji, Former Chairman Rishikesh, Shri Dr. Rajul
Dutt, Director Omkarananda Institute of Management and
Technology (OIMT), Dr. Sudha Bhardwaj, Principal
Government Degree College and Major Govind Singh Rawat,
Principal Shri Bharat Mandir Inter-College. Adorations to
our great friend, Shri I.D. Joshiji, Senior-Educationist
and former Principal Shri Bharat Mandir Inter-College, to
Shri Tiwariji, Senior Educationist, and to all other so
nice, wonderful gentlemen, whom - from time to time - I
have a chance to meet. Adorations to all of you !
My Dear Friends !
Frankly speaking, I feel very much honoured, that a
chance has been given to me to speak to all of you.
Several times I came across the Senior Citizens of
Rishikesh, and all the time I felt, that you are simply
special. There is something like a "magic Power" with all
of you. And it was for me a great joy, when we were
together for different spiritual and cultural celebrations
at the Omkarananda Public Ghat, Muni-ki-Reti, or at
Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam, or in the Headquarters of
Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas, and so on. So many times, we
came together, we could discuss with each other and it was
simply excellent.
Dear Friends, I tell you one thing: You all are 3
times blessed. First of all, you are born in one of the
finest countries. Secondly, you all are touched by the
great Science, by the Vedic Science, by the supreme Vedic
Knowledge. Thirdly, you are from a special city, called
Rishikesh, the city of Saints.
My dear Friends, when we are young, we think, we never
become old. But suddenly the time changes and we realize,
that certain things are no more as easy for us, as it used
to be earlier. Sometimes we think, we will be ever young.
We forget, that nothing remains forever. And when we are
young, we often make the mistake, that we neglect the
elderly people. For example, an elderly person stands on
the road, a car is coming, it rushes through. The driver
sees, that an elderly lady wants to cross the road, but he
is not bothered, he passes. Should we not stop the car and
let the elderly persons pass the road ? Sometimes an
elderly person would like to go up the steps, but has
difficulty because of her baggage. Should we not help her
? Should we not realize, that any help to the elderly
people is equal to the help of the Lord ?! We have a lot
of Educationists here. Should we not teach in the school,
in the Moral Science, that we specially should take care
for the elderly people?! You see, the elderly people
deserve all the praise. They have rich experience, they
have gone through each and everything, they know the very
pulse of the city. And you know, there is always coming a
sort of a special aura from the elderly people here.
Therefore, I always felt very good, when I could come
across these saintly, elderly people of Rishikesh.
Dear friends, time is passing very quickly. And you
see, often the problem is, when elderly people are alone,
their mind starts wandering heavily. And everybody knows,
a wandering mind is very dangerous and can lead to
difficulties, depression and so on. We should see - when
we are getting older - that we are always active. The
moment we are not active, the problem starts. That does
not mean, that we have to run from pillar to post and get
into stress and all this. Not the least ! We just have to
see, that our mind is always in a peaceful mood.
Therefore, my dear friends, Lord Krishna said, not
even for a moment, man can be without actions. So, it is
good, that sometimes the Senior Citizens meet each other,
discuss about everything. Something should always be
there, so that the mind is kept under control.
And Friends, though it may sound a little bit hard,
but we are also coming closer to that situation, where, at
any moment, we may leave our body.
Friends, we have to see, that we always keep good
thoughts, we should always see, that we keep spiritual
thoughts. The great Saint Shri Yogananda said once very
wonderfully: "In which state of the mind You leave the
body, in the same state of mind You take again rebirth."
Very often the question is raised: "For what we have
come to this earth?" The beautiful Vedic Philosophy says
it very clearly: "Your life has been given to you only for
the Realization of the Truth."
Friends, some may like it, some may not like it, but
we have to always see, that we are in a spiritual line. We
are born to realize the Truth and we are born to achieve
Liberation. And the time is always counting. One single
second, which we are losing, can no more come back. We
have to be alert.
You see, I would like to repeat again something, which
I often mention: Man is having three "Friends". One friend
is your fortune, your wealth. It will go with you, until
fortune lasts. Your second friend is family, friends and
all, who are close to you. They will be with you till the
graveyard and there they leave you alone. The third friend
is your Divine Soul. This third friend will remain with
You, wherever your individual Soul is going, along with
the impressions of Your hard work, Your good work, Your
thinking, Your feeling, Your wonderful actions.
And now Spring season is coming, Holi is standing
shortly in front of our door. Of course, though everything
is so very nice, so very colourful, it also has a little
bit a darker side. We like colours, we like the beauty of
colours, but we have to be very careful, which type of
colours we use to celebrate Holi. We should avoid harmful
chemical colours under all circumstances.
The main reason for our Holi Celebration is the
Victory of the Good over the evil.
Lord Krishna has clearly said: "Among the seasons, I
am the Spring."
So, we have a now a good opportunity to start this
wonderful season with a new energy. Let us begin this
spring season with controlling a little bit ourselves. We
are very fast in controlling people outside. But we should
control more ourselves.
We all have seen, that life is so short, so we have to
make the maximum out of it.
I said in the very beginning, that we are all blessed
to be in such a beautiful, highly spiritual country like
India. But when we have all this beauty of spiritualism,
when we have all the spiritual beauty of the Rishis and
Saints, then why don't we make use of it? When the Gold is
in front of us, why we are playing with iron?
I must honestly tell you, I am very thankful to my
Master Gurudev Paramahamsa Swami Omkarananda, who has
shown us the Beauty of that great Indian tradition.
You see, there are special divine Vibrations and a
great divine Significance in India, from the South of
India to the North, from the East to the West.
You see, in certain countries you can find great
discipline, cleanliness and all these things. But often
there is no warmth ! India is a country with a very warm
Heart, which is expressed everywhere, whether it is in
music, whether it is in dance, whether it is in education,
whether it is in spiritual life, it's amazing !
Dear Friends, my heartfelt wish is, that You quickly
come closer to That, which is our real Divine Origin. The
Wisdom and the great divine Knowledge are in front of our
door. Let's make use of it.
My special wishes to You for a very, very excellent
Health ! You shall have a very, very long Life and You
shall get everything, that brings You closer to the Lord.
Thank You, thank You very much.
Swami Omkarananda Maharaj ki Jay !!!
