Yoga Sutras of Patanjali - Samadhi Pada (1.12-18)

Meditation on a form is the first step to transcend the form, to go beyond the mind and to unite with the one formless space and energy that is within, and yet also without, all forms. Practice and detachment are the two wings that uphold the yogi on this flight from the finite into the infinite, from darkness into light, from suffering into bliss, from restlessness into peace.
